Those in first responder professions are constantly exposed to both primary and secondary trauma. The toll of these experiences is felt by the individual and by their coworkers and families.
I believe there is a deep unfairness when the lives of those who have committed to witnessing and attempting to intervene in the suffering of others are taken apart as a cost of the career. When seeking out services, it is essential that first responders have access to professionals who understand the culture surrounding law enforcement and fire, and the impact of the ongoing trauma.
As a trauma specialist and Mental Health Professional for six local law enforcement agencies, I provide individual therapy as well as training around managing the impact of primary and secondary trauma on those involved in these specialized careers. If you are interested in discussing a presentation or training for your department, please reach out to me directly.
